Sniper
says:
This is Sniper here with Dave Da Rave
this afternoon. How are you today DDR?
DDR
says:
I'm very well thanx
Sniper
says:
First question. How did you
pick out the Dave Da Rave gimmick?
DDR
says:
Well, it's a basic extension
of my normal self. I guess it's the 'me' that I'd like to be all the time, the
arrogant, cocky guy, but can't be.
Sniper
says:
Many people have said that in the past. Do you think people
wrestle to be something that they aren't?
DDR
says:
That’s a really good point. I
think, like all entertainment, that it's a form of escapism so yeah in a way
you're being 'that other guy' or the person you aspire to be but can't be due
to the problems with swearing in public places and assaulting passers-by with
steel chairs
Sniper
says:
It is a well known fact that many members of the EPW are religious
and pray before shows. I've heard that you are starting to be more interested
in that.
DDR
says:
Yeah, I've always been a
Christian, but never a very religious guy. Meeting the people from EPW has
really helped me come to terms with religion and my beliefs. More importantly
it's a real comfort to know someone's watching over you in the ring.
Sniper
says:
Before EPW, you were in REW right?
DDR
says:
Yeah, I ran REW from 2001 to
now, we're still going strong, but EPW is my priority now
Sniper
says:
Why the federation change? Online shows? Bigger roster?
DDR
says:
Long story! REW was a 3 man show and it's difficult
to maintain interest with three guys. Eventually The
Bullet, one of our 3 main guys, decided he'd got tired of the byw game and left. We did some successful shows with our
friends from BCW but it wasn’t quite the same. We had also always wanted to get
our work online, as we felt we weren't too bad at it. EPW offered us a more
professional fed with more members
Sniper
says:
On the latest EPW Melted, Mark Fury debuted. I think he was called
the Bullet. Are they the same person?
DDR
says:
They are indeed! Mark is a
close friend of mine and along with Mouldsta we
trained ourselves together. After he left REW we lost contact but now he's back
and rest assured, better than ever,
Sniper
says:
Speaking of Mouldsta, is he actually
drunk all the time, or that just his gimmick?
DDR
says:
It's his gimmick, at least in
character. Again, it's an extension of the many nights spent in local pubs
planning REW shows. Budweiser usually featured heavily,
and it developed from there
Sniper
says:
Not being a Posse member before starting in EPW, did you fit in immediately,
or did it take a while?
DDR
says:
We were made to feel at home right away. The first
night we met the Posse they had been watching a very old REW tape so when we
came to the door they knew of us. Right away we felt relaxed as we had so much
in common. Mouldsta and I came from a group of
friends with no interest in wrestling so to move into a different group where
wrestling was important was brilliant. I honestly can never thank the Posse
members enough for making us so welcome
Sniper
says:
Do you feel that when wrestling Mouldsta,
you can put on a better match because you trust each other more? Or do you have
the same feeling of trust with everyone?
DDR
says:
I believe trust is the most important factor in the
ring-obviously, having worked with Mouldsta for
nearly 3 years we're very confident and our ring work will show that. However I
also believe that my next match is always my best and work hard to test that
theory. I trust everyone in EPW enough to wrestle them. Not the same level as Mouldsta as we're at the stage where we know each other's
moves so well we can work good spots without much planning, but it's getting
there.
Sniper
says:
What do you think of other BYW feds that have online shows? BYWf, SHEBWF, VBW
DDR
says:
I'm very unlucky in that I
only have a 56k connection and therefore can't view other full shows. I've seen
the BYWF's stuff and it's very good, like a benchmark
for everyone else to aim at, and I have a great deal of respect for them.
Personally, I'd like to see EPW reach that status.
Sniper
says:
What do you think is the barrier for EPW to get to that level? It
used to be the wrestling skill, but now it is very good.
DDR
says:
More
wrestling! I've helped out with the
scripting of some shows since I was booker for REW for 2 years, and I would
personally like to see 4 matches a show, about 5-8 mins
a match. Smooth, well worked wrestling, interesting storylines and an even more
TV like production style is what I think would push EPW that stage further.
Sniper
says:
It seems as if BYW's fire has died down
in previous years. Do you that way?
DDR
says:
I'm not as in touch with the
Sniper
says:
What do you think about the extreme or hardcore feds? Do you have
the same views as many in the EPW?
DDR
says:
Yes! Just before we met Ken
and EPW we nearly merged REW with a local fed. They were taking risks I was
against and enjoyed using light tubes. This kind of thing serves only to
promote BYW in a bad light and I'm definitely against it. There's no skill in
falling through glass or swinging a tray. Wrestling and bumping takes a
tremendous amount of practice and skill.
Sniper
says:
Why do you think feds do that?
DDR
says:
An attempt to push the
boundaries, to prove they are one better than anyone else. If one fed does a
barbed wire light tube table bump, another fed will do a barbed wire light tube
flaming table bump just to make them seem the best.
Sniper
says:
Do you think that there will ever be more wrestling focused feds
than hardcore feds?
DDR
says:
Yes, in the
Sniper
says:
Do you think that the EPW will run as long as the BYWF has?
DDR
says:
I'd like to think so, yes.
Personally, I love the rush I get from BYW and I'll do it as long as my body
lets me, so if DDR has anything to do with it, EPW will be around for a long
time yet!
Sniper
says:
This has been done in many interviews before. I'm going to give a
name, and you give your opinion. Alright?
DDR
says:
Yeah, go for it
